I originally found his birth place as Allegany Co NY. This page has a letter from a descendant which states John was born in Wheeling VA/WV. The Nichols family moved to Fairfield Co OH c1807. John's parents are from MD and Germany.

Alpha is John's granddaughter through his son Jacob, who vanishes after the 1870 census. Jacob's wife
was not a Frazier, so I'm fairly sure Benjamin is not Alpha's other grandfather.
Are Benjamin and Elizabeth really part of John's household? I don't see how they could be related,
unless Elizabeth is Diana's sister.
