There may have been another son John Preston Kirby, but I think this is a mistake.
The 1880 census has a Preston J Tuttle living with this family, as a farm laborer. No John or Preston is shown as a son of Thomas and Lucinda. I wonder if someone saw a record showing Preston with the family and decided he was another son.
