Clarence left home as a teenager presumably to go back to Illinois, but the train station manager said he got a ticket for California. Daniel's sister Julia Ann married William Glassgow, who had made a lot of money in the gold fields in California, and this may have influenced Clarence. He was never heard from again. His mother would go to seances to try to find him. Later she and her youngest son moved to California, not sure if it was in hopes of finding him or not.
He was cited in his uncles will in 1924 as address unknown, reported dead.
