Only 13 years old, William served under Gen. Edward Braddock during French and Indian Wars. He also served in the militia during the Revolutionary War.

King George granted William 160 acres on the waters of McMichaels Creek in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. Grant #111 was issued to William on 5/4/1769 for the sum of 50 pounds.

A deed dated 9/26/1815 conveyed 150 acres of the same land to his son, David B. Yandell. Controller's voucher #5060 dated 1/5/1784 verifies that William Yandle served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. His name also appears on a list of Public Officials for Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. He moved to Sumner County, Tennessee in 1814.

Record of the Taxable Property and Polls in Sumner County, Tennessee for the year 1821: William Yandell - 70 acres on Barren Fork Drakes Creek; William Yandell, Jr. - 350 acres on Barren Fork Drakes Creek; David Yandell - 200 acres on Drakes Creek.
