Grifte is in the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis region of Hessen, Germany, latitude 51.2166667 N, longitude 9.45 E; elevation 479'.
It is part of a community called Edermünde, which has 4 parts: Besse, Grifte, Haldorf, and Holzhausen am Hahn. The area is largely devoted to farming. In 2004 the population of Edermünde was 7,359.
It is in the central part of Germany, just south of Kassel, where the Eder river joins the Fulda river.
To get there, you would start in Kassel, take the A49 south, then go east on the K92 (Hauptstrasse),
then south on the L3321 (Guxhagener Strasse) to Grifte, at the junction of L3316. Or you could go
south on the A7, then northwest on the L3321 to Grifte.

The Sinning family lived in Grifte for many generations.
