I am guessing he was the father of Susan, Sarah, and Narcissa, but he pretty much has to be.
Susan Hinds and Sarah Hinds married brothers Solomon Smith and John S Smith in Fentress Co.
There were only three Hinds families in Fentress Co on the 1840 census: Joel, his brother Samuel, and
Sam's son Hiram. Sam had a daughter Sarah, but she married William Bledsoe. Hiram had a daughter
Sarah, but she was born in 1847. Neither Sam nor Hiram had a daughter Susan or Narcissa, though
Sam had a daughter still unidentified.
On the 1830 census the only Hinds families in Fentress Co are Joel and my branch: Levi, William, and
John. My branch moved to AR in 1831, so Sarah, Susan, and Narcissa can't be from any of them.
There were no Hines families in Fentress Co on either census.
So there really isn't another Hinds family they could be from but Joel's. Since he does have three
daughters of appropriate ages on the censuses, I have to conclude he was their father.
As a further corroboration, note that Solomon Smith named his second son Joel.
The case for Narcissa is bolstered by the fact that John Beaty is next door to Joel on the 1840 census,
and that he also named a son Joel.
Also note that Susan had a daughter Narcissus.
