I may have the wrong James here.
This RootsWeb entry says that he married Mary Elizabeth Carman.
There were two Mary Carmans and four Elizabeth Carmans in Breckinridge Co KY on the 1850 census. All but the youngest are gone by 1860.
Census entries make me think he married Elizabeth Cruse, though.
The 1850 census has two James Hinds/Hines born c1830 KY: this one, in Breckinridge Co KY; and James K Hines 20 KY, in Warren Co KY.
The 1860 census also has two: James Shelton Hinds, distant cousin of this James, in OR; and James Hines in McLean Co KY. [James Shelton is incorrectly listed as a Jasper on the 1850 census, in the household of his mother's second husband.] I can't find James K anywhere.
The 1870 census has three: James Shelton Hines in OR; James K Hines in Jackson Co MO; and James Hines in McLean Co KY.
McLean Co is near Breckinridge and Hancock Cos, where this Hinds family lived. Warren Co is a ways south.
I think it safe to say that James K of Warren Co is the one who moved to MO. James Shelton clearly moved from Pulaski Co KY to OR. That leaves this James as the one in McLean Co. See below for the Cruse connection.

Elizabeth should be 37. The Hansfords are from Elizabeth's first marriage. On the 1850 census, they are with widow Elizabeth Hansford 27 in Daviess Co KY. Daviess is between McLean and Hancock Cos.
The 1840 census has a Stephen Hansford in Daviess Co with wife 15-20.
RootsWeb entries show Stephen's wife as Elizabeth Cruse 1823-03-12 Daviess Co KY d 1871-08-21 McLean Co KY d/o Thomas Cruse + Rachel Eleanor Barnhill. None mentions her marriage to James Hines, though they show Stephen dying just before the 1850 census.
