THE EVANS REUNION.
An Interesting Gathering at the W. H. Evans Residence.
Correspondence of The Tribune.
Hempfield Twp., Oct. 9. - According to previous
arrangements the descendants of Walter Evans gathered at
the residence of W. H. Evans, where the meeting was called
to order at 11 o'clock a. m., Thursday, October 5th, 1893,
by electing R. K. Hissem, president, and Michael Welker,
Jacob Coughenour, John Evans of Madison, Pa., Samuel
Ebbert, Wilson Shields, Enos Ruff, G. C. Winnings, Joshua
Evans, and Jesse Giffen, vice presidents; James V. Evans of
New Stanton, secretary.
Prayer by Rev. S. Douglas. Song of welcome followed by an
address of welcome by James V. Evans of New Stanton, Pa.,
and responded to in a fitting manner by James W. Evans of
Pierce, Stark county, Ohio, and Rev. S. S. Hough of
Madison, Pa.
At this time it was announced that dinner was ready, when a
recess was taken for dinner to which all did justice, and
greeted their friends.
After a reasonable time was given for noon recess, the
happy throng, whose hearts beat in unison, was again called
together and Jno. L. Davidson of Greensburg, Pa., gave the
family history which gave as a total of living descendants,
three hundred and five.
Rev. Zuber of Greensburg, gave a spicy address, also Rev.
Douglas and Rev. Woodward. Solo by M. M. Byers. Short talks
were given by Messrs. W. S. King, Jno. L. Davidson, and W.
H. Evans.
A hearty vote of thanks was tendered W. H. Evans for
hospitalities.
A committee of four was named to see to having another
reunion in about two years, consisting of James W. Evans of
Pierce, Stark county, Ohio, James V. Evans, Wm. H. Evans of
New Stanton, Pa., Charlie Evans of Madison, Pa.
One noticeable fact was that there were only two old
bachelors among the entire descendants and both were
present.
Total number present, 159, and this day will fall o'er all
present, as the seasons come and go, and cause them to
cherish the love grown cold with care.
County papers please copy.

A message on the Evans message board at Ancestry.com mentions Walter Evans 1751 d 1836 who
married Mary Smith 1760 d 1834 and had children Evan, Walter, Jenkin, George, Hannah, Jane, and
May. Walter's father was Jenkin Evans who immigrated from Wales to PA.
That Walter was born too late to be this one.
Jenkin apparently had a few brothers. This Walter could be one of them.

Note: Montgomery Co was formed in 1784.
Jenkin Evans, Hugh Evans, and Evan Evans also appear on these lists. Walter son of Jenkin would have been an adult in 1789, but I think these entries are not him.
Note the tax valuation for his occupation was abated in 1786. (Jenkin's was abated the same year.) I think that indicates he reached a certain age, which implies these entries are not Walter son of Jenkin.

1798 US Direct Tax list for Montgomery Co PA shows:
Montgomery twp p57 line 18 Walter Evans 1 house, 1 outhouse, 1 acre, $225; revised value $337.50
Montgomery twp (no page number) line 19 Walter Evans 123 acres, $1762
Montgomery twp p27 Walter Evans 1 dwelling $337.50, assessment 67.5 cents
Those could be this Walter or Walter son of Jenkin Evans. On all the pages Evan and Peter Evans are also listed.

These might be him:
1800 census Montgomery Co PA p789
Walter Evans 3 M <10, 1 M 10-16, 1 M 45+, 1 F <10, 1 F 10-16, 1 F 16-26, 1 F 26-45
1790 census Montgomery Co PA p35 (twp not given)
Walter Evans 1 M 16+, 2 M <16, 3 F
But more likely they are Walter son of Jenkin Evans.
