There is a death certificate for "supposedly James A Hines" filed 1931-09-01. The certificate says he was "found dead in corn field no sign of violence. Supposed to been dead about thirty days. Body not recognizable.".
The 1930 census does show a James Hines in Vernon Co who matches this one.
