Born: about 1792-00-00 Virginia USA
Died: (unknown)
Marriages:
1. George Weaver
Children of Matilda Pryer and George Weaver:
Notes:
Another researcher sends:
Matilda Weaver's mother was Matilda Pryer, and Matilda Pryer's mother was a Yancy, from Franklin
Co TN. Yancy was supposed to be at least part Cherokee.
--
DNA results show that Ms Yancy was not a full-blood Cherokee. Matilda's maternal line is of haplotype
T2, which appears to be Germanic.
It is still possible that Matilda Pryer is part Cherokee, but the connection must be further back. It could be
that her mother's father's mother was the Cherokee; or possibly it's Matilda's father's mother. Another
possibility is that Matilda Pryer isn't Cherokee at all, and the connection is on the Weaver side.
I think I would lean to the first of those possibilities.
One point slightly bothers me, though. Ida Ellen Clinkingbeard, g-granddaughter of this Matilda, knew
that Matilda Weaver was part Cherokee. If the connection was this Matilda's g-grandmother, that would
be six generations back from Ida. Would the family story have lasted that many generations?

I checked with the Davidson Co TN archives, and they do not have a marriage record for George.
Marriage records for Wilson Co TN do not exist for that time period.
I don't know if George married before or after moving to Wilson Co. Based on the age ranges of their
children on the censuses, it looks like they married around 1815.
George bought land in 1814, so presumably he moved right before or after that. Based on the census
entries (see below), it looks like he married right before moving.
--
If I'm right about her and the children moving in with the Yandells after her husband George died, she
was born in 1792 plus or minus 2 years.
On the 1880 census daughter Matilda's parents are given as born in TN and VA. That doesn't agree
with the above story.
--
This page lists Yanceys on the 1820 census. It shows Ezra Yancy and James Yancy in Franklin Co TN. They are not there in 1830. (The 1810 census for Franklin
Co is lost.) Note that part of present-day Franklin Co was still Indian land in 1810.
--
Early tax lists for Wilson Co show:
1803 Joseph Pryer, Joseph Pryr
1809 Daniel Pryr
--
A Pryor researcher sends:
She might be related to John Pryor and Ruth Sherrill of White Co TN. They had a son William who had a daughter Matilda.
John seems to have married Ruth in Greene Co TN in the 1790s and moved to White Co about 1810, then moved to Sangamon Co IL in 1829. He died intestate but doesn't seem to have had a daughter Matilda.

Elijah Prior 3 M <10, 2 M 10-16, 1 M 45+, 2 F <10, 2 F 10-16, 2 F 26-45
Those counties adjoined Wilson Co in 1820. There are no Pryers of any spelling in Wilson Co.
There are a couple of Prior families in Jackson Co, which is two to the east of Wilson, and a William
Pryer in Overton Co (next one east).
Note that her husband George Weaver was from Davidson Co before moving to Wilson Co. I don't know
if he married before or after moving, but Nicholas and Zachariah seem to be most likely to be her
relatives. Zack's entries aren't consistent. A RootsWeb entry gives him as Zack B Pryor c1772 d 1837
Nashville, Davidson Co TN s/o David Jr Pryor c1738 Buckingham Co VA d 1804 same + Susan Ballow
c1752 VA d 1832 Davidson Co. Zack had a brother Nicholas Ballow Pryor c1789 Buckingham Co.
Matilda could just barely be Zack's oldest child or David's youngest.
It looks like Zack did not have any children, though. His 1837 will leaves almost everything to an Ann
Wright and her (apparent) sons Thornton and Ben Jr. The rest of his estate goes to his nephews John
Jefferson and Munro Johnson (sons of his sister Mitchie). The will does not give a relation for Ann Wright.
As far as I can tell she isn't his sister. The 1830 census for Davidson Co has a Benjn Wright age 50-60
with two young sons. He is not there on the 1840, but neither is Ann. The 1850 census for Davidson Co
has an Ann Wright 41 with son B F, dau Lucy, and male W M age 27. There is no Thornton in Davidson,
but there is one in Henry Co.
For the 1810 census, the only TN county extant is Rutherford. There were no Priors of any spelling in
Rutherford Co.
There is a good chance Matilda's family would have been in NC. The Yandells (see daughter Matilda)
were in Mecklenburg Co NC in 1810. It would not be unusual for both families to have migrated to TN
together. There were no Priors in Mecklenburg Co on the 1810 census, but in Montgomery Co (which
touches Mecklenburg at its northeast corner) is:
1810 census Montgomery Co NC p582
Pleasant Prior 2 M <10, 2 M 10-16, 1 M 26-45, 3 F 10-16, 1 F 45+
In Rowan Co (two counties northeast of Mecklenburg) is:
1810 census Rowan Co NC p335
David Pryor 3 M <10, 1 M 16-26, 1 M 26-45, 2 F <10, 1 F 10-16, 1 F 26-45
Thomas Pryor 1 M 45+, 1 F 16-26
Or they may have been in VA. Daughter Matilda says her mother was born in VA. There are 24 Prior
families (various spellings) in VA on the 1810 census. Note that Zachariah and David were from
Buckingham Co VA.
There are Yancy families in Albemarle, Buckingham, Caroline, Culpeper, Cumberland, Hanover, and
Rockingham Cos on the 1810 census.
In Buckingham Co, Charles Yancey is on p784, Zane Pryor is on p785, and Leonard and Langston
Pryor are on 786. The Pryors are sons of David + Susan above.
