According to a comment on the FamilySearch tree, she was first married to an Adams.

One tree at Ancestry.com says her maiden name was Mattingly, and that she married James in Overton Co TN on 1815-09-23.
That marriage actually occurred in Washington Co KY, which is near the middle of the state. It's also way too late to be this Sarah.
