Benjamin Longacre Hines served in Mo. 11th Infantry Co.K CSA
Commanded by Col.Simon P.Burns,Lt.Col.Thomas H.Murray and Maj.James
Phillip. This unit was first organized and redesignated to prevent its
confusion with Mitchell's 8th Mo. Inf.( commanded by Col.Charles S.Mitchell)
Burns/Hunter's original regiment (designated as the 8th Mo. Inf.) saw action
at the Battle of Helena and during the Shelby's Missouri/Arkansas raid of
Sept./Oct.1863. As designated the 11th Mo. Inf., this regiment engaged the
Federals during the Red river Campaign, Battles of Pleasant Hill. Jenkins'
Ferry NOTE: Dewitt C. Hunter ,was from Vernon co.,Mo. and commended
Hunter's Cavalry beginning as a unit of the Missouri State Guard at the
beginning of the war. I was not aware of it carrying a designation as infantry.
