Pete Riggsby, miner at Fork Ridge, was seriously injured yesterday
afternoon by falling slate. He was rushed to the Brasheer-Brummett
hospital after the accident where, it was reported, his injuries
are serious.
Carlos Gilbert, brother-in-law of the injured man, was standing near
when the slate fell. The block weighed about two tons, he stated,
and fell without warning. A part of it crushed Riggsby in the back.
He was unconscious and suffering intense pain when brought to the
hospital.

Pete Riggsby, 45, miner who was crushed by falling slate at the Fork
Ridge mines Monday, died at the hospital early this morning. The
deceased lived at the home of his brother-in-law, Carlos Gilbert. He
is survived by one son. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
