Last Friday night a daughter of Jonas Hall, a colored man who lives
just west of the Dowling mill quarters, came to her father to see
about some hogs. Soon after Rufus Rigsby, her husband, came there and
began to scold his wife and call her vile names. "Biddie", a woman
who lives with Hall, took the wife's part, and Rigsby then began to
abuse Biddie. The quarrel ended with Rigsby drawing his knife and
cutting Biddie, first on the left side of the cheek, then on the
right, the gash extending across the jaw.
Rigsby then left for parts unknown. Biddie is now up again, though
she is able to talk but little until the scar on her jaw is fully
healed. No warrant for Rigsby's arrest has been sworn out.
