Chapter XXVIII Genealogy and Biography
[A biography of Daniel Bedinger Lucas 1836-03-16]
Mr Lucas is a lineal descendant of Robert Lucas ...
[Robert Lucas] left a son, Edward, who was a supervisor in 1730 of Falls township. In a few years after this date Edward Lucas [son of supervisor Edward] crossed the mountains and took up his home in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, settling a large tract of land, on the headwaters of Rattlesnake run, which empties in the Potomac, a few miles below Shepherdstown. He was twice married; his first wife was Mary Darke, aunt of the famous Gen William Darke, of Revolutionary fame, and Mary Corn was his second wife. He had seventeen children, the eldest of whom, Edward, was born in 1738.
