I forget where I got this:

He arrived in York County, Virginia, an immigrant, May 6,1654 and settled in Lancaster County, Virginia. He received a land patent in Middlesex County, Virginia, October 30, 1669. He died in December, 1684 leaving a will written May 30, 1681, probated January 4, 1685 mentioning his deceased wife and four children, Mary, Thomas, Ann and Henry.

His wife was Mary, assumed to be Mary Tarrant, though no proof has been found of her maiden name. The children of Thomas Tugwell and Mary Tarrant Tugwell are: 1. Alice Tugwell, born about 1659, died November 22, 1660. 2. Mary Tugwell, 1661-1686, married John Bourke. 3. Thomas Tugwell, Jr., 1664-1687, evidently unmarried. 4. Ann Tugwell, 1666-, married Nicholas Rice. 5. HENRY TUGWELL, 1670-1743.

from this page:
He was imported by Obed. Williams on May 6, 1654 to York Co., VA (spelled Tuggell, "Cavaliers and Pioneers" Patent Book 3, p. 315 by Nugent, 1934). He and eight others gave up their headrights of 50 acres for transportation, and he was in Lancaster Co., VA by 1658 when he leased 100 acres there before moving to the south side of the Rappahannock River the following year--which was also in Lancaster Co. until 1669 when a portion of Lancaster was used to form Middlesex Co. On Oct. 30, 1669, Thomas patented 210 acres in Middlesex Co. which included 100 acres he had purchased in 1662 from Richard Lewis and 110 acres for transporting 3 persons from England ("Virginia Land Grants," p. 277).

There is a book called "Genealogy of the Tuggle Family 1560 - 1936", by Henry Forbis Tuggle and Morgan Lanier Tuggle published in 1936.
It says this Thomas is son of Benjamin 1598, but doesn't have proof.

I wonder if the Tuggle families mentioned above spelled their name Tugwell, as this Thomas seems to have.
