Jeremiah Dungan Genealogy
Record modified: 2023-01-20
This is my ancestor 9 generations back.
Born: about 1730-00-00 Bucks Co, Pennsylvania USA
Died: 1812-08-00 Watauga, Washington Co, Tennessee USA
Marriages:
1. Mary (unknown)
Children of Jeremiah Dungan and Mary (unknown):
Notes:
There were at least two Jeremiah Dungans who have been mixed up.
One died in Bucks Co PA in 1809 and had son Joshua and daughters Elizabeth Dyer, Eleanor Marpole, Mary Kirk, and Nancy Dungan. He was son of Clement and Eleanor, as shown by Eleanor's will naming her granddaughter Eleanor Marple.
Mine died in Washington Co TN in 1812. I haven't found his will, but a deed shows his five children are:
Mary
Orpha + John Love
Sarah + Zebulon Smith
Margaret + James Pierce
Rebecca + Jeremiah Gibson
Apparently both of them married a Mary. One of them was in Bucks Co PA on 1762-11-24 to Mary Whitton. That seems to have been the other one. My Jeremiah was probably in VA by then.
--
There were several Jeremiah Dungans. One served in the Revolutionary War.
In the DAR database he is number A200166.
--
Genforum message 83 says that this Jeremiah is the same as Jeremiah Duncan who married Rebecca Hendry.
Genforum message 89 points out that the 1782 will of George Hendry (Rebecca's father) states Jeremiah Duncan "now lives in Frederick Co VA", but Jeremiah Dungan was living in Washington Co TN by 1778.
Note that Jeremiah Dungan was in Frederick Co VA, but earlier than Jeremiah Duncan (see below).
--
In 1778 he built a mill in Washington Co TN. He and his family were millers for many years.
In 1796 he bought 40 acres on Sinking Creek in Washington Co.
[Note: At the time, Washington Co was the whole corner of TN. Jeremiah seems to have been in the part the was split off to Carter Co.]
