Born: 1740-00-00 Orange Co, Virginia USA
Died: 1819-00-00
Marriages:
1. Thomas Hopson
Children of Sarah Lewis and Thomas Hopson:
Notes:
LDS site says born Orange VA
Orange Co NC might be more reasonable. She and Thomas lived in Wake Co NC, which is next to
Orange Co. Orange Co VA is quite a ways north.
There were several Lewis families in Wake and Orange Co for the 1790 census:
Wake Co:
p248 Thomas Lewis 124
p250 James Lewis 113
p262 Berry Lewis 142 (on same page as Rigsby and Motley families, who connect later)
p260 Jesse Lewis 212
p272 John Lewis 147
p272 James B Lewis 131
p273 James J Lewis 100
Orange Co (tax records; no census):
Enoch Lewis
Fielding Lewis
Henry Lewis
John Lewis
Thos Lewis
The 1800 census for Wake Co has 6 Lewis families, all in Hillsborough twp (where this Sarah lived):
p744: James Lewis 23110-10020
p744: James Jr Lewis 00010-00000
p746: James Lewis 31120-02110
p745: John Lewis 10101-12301
p745: William Lewis 20100-00010
p745: Matthew Lewis 00010-20100
[The listings are alphabetical, so it can't be told if these Lewises lived near Thomas Hopson.]
The only one of those who could possibly be Sarah's father is John. But Sarah would have been about
60, so her father probably was not alive in 1800.
There are 10 Lewis families in Orange Co.

Berry above seems to have been from Halifax Co VA, which is on the NC state line, about 50 miles due
north of Orange/Wake Cos.
RootsWeb entries say he was born c1700 or c1720 and married Sarah Smith. None shows a daughter
Sarah for him, though that would be reasonable. He is supposed to have had a daughter Averilla c1740.
