This RootsWeb entry says he is s/o John Wood + Sarah Clemons.

It also says:
In "History of Morris County, New Jersey" it has Reuben Wood from Mendham in Capt. Cox's Co. 3rd Reg. in 1776.

That may or may not be this Reuben. This one was definitely in the military in Randolph Co NC in 1779.
(Note the Hindses moved from Mendham to near Randolph Co.)
