Elizabeth Miller b. about 1829-00-00

Notes:

I think he married about 1811.
Apparently he died between 1850 and 1860.

--
He served in the War of 1812, as a Private in the 14th Regiment (Mitchisson's) of the KY milita.
[Note that John Rigsby, father of the John Rigsby who married Samuel's daughter Ann, was in the same regiment.]

--
I found a very interesting RootsWeb tree. It has a Samuel Miller married to (unknown) Burton and living in Allen Co KY. It shows Samuel's father as a John Miller born in ENG. There appears to be a very good chance that this is my Samuel.
I emailed the owner of the tree. Unfortunately, she doesn't have proof of Samuel's father. However, she does show Samuel having a son John, one of 9 sons and 3 daughters. Other children she knows of are Mary, William, Simon, and Dolly. Mary married Zach Mayhew and moved to Hopkins Co KY.

--
Another tree had the above John:
John Miller 1744-01-08 Stepney St Mary, London ENG d 1807-05-26 Pendleton Dist SC
+ in Newgate, London ENG 1767-07-11 Elizabeth Say 1746-07-11 London

John s/o William Miller + Sarah (unknown)
Elizabeth d/o Charles Greene Say + Grace Bemester

--
A tree that no longer exists said that John came from England to PA in 1783, then moved to Charleston SC, and then moved c1795 to Pendleton Dist SC. That would mean he arrived in the US after my Samuel was born, and thus couldn't be Sam's father.

It also said his will mentions sons John, Wilkes, and William, and daughter Elizabeth.

--
I have 2 DNA matches supposed to be from John's son John 1770 d 1826, and 1 supposed to be from John's daughter Elizabeth J 1780 d 1863.

--
This may be a lead:
John Miller + Rachel Thomson; lived in Abbeville SC; her brother Andrew's daughter Esther married
Elizabeth Burton's cousin David Burton.

"Some SC Genealogical Records" by Janie Revill

Will of James Miller [Oct term 1801]
...
children Nathaniel, Jane, Joshua, James, Samuel, John, Thomas, Charles
3 plantations on Tyger River

--
He appears to have followed the naming conventions, so his parents likely were John + Ann.

--
There are three John Millers in Pendleton Co SC on the 1790 census:
p80: John Miller 2 M 16+, 1 M 0-15, 3 F
p82: John Miller 3 M 16+, 1 M 0-15, 6 F
p85: John Miller 1 M 16+, 1 M 0-15, 2 F
and one in Charleston:
[no page number]: John Miller 1? M 16+, 2 F

On the 1800 there are two:
p42: John Miller 1 M 45+, 2 F 16-26, 1 F 45+
p60: John Miller 3 M <10, 2 M 16-26, 1 M 45+, 2 F 0-10, 1 F 10-16, 1 F 26-45

And on the 1810 there are two:
p154b: John Miller 3 M <10, 4 M 10-16, 2 M 26-45, 1 F <10, 1 F 16-26, 1 F 26-45
p163b: John Miller 2 M <10, 1 M 26-45, 2 F <10, 1 F 26-45
[Note my Rigsbys are on p140-144.]

If this Samuel really is son of a John, it looks like it would be the one on p60 in 1800.

There is a John Miller in Wake Co NC on the 1790 census five pages from James Rigsby, whose
grandson John married Samuel's daughter Ann. That John Miller has 2 sons under 16 and a daughter.
This is a radical thought, but what if Samuel actually was born in NC? He would have been under 9
when they moved to SC. The only indication I have of his birth place is the 1850 census, when he was
69 and living with daughter Ann. If John Rigsby gave the information to the census taker, would he have
known that Samuel, though from SC, was not born there?
The Burtons were in neighboring Orange Co and moved to Spartanburg Dist SC at about the same time
the Rigsbys moved to Pendleton Dist. Both families and Samuel then moved to Allen Co KY.
There is a John Miller in Spartanburg Dist SC on the 1800 census on p183. The Burtons were on pps
198 to 204, except one who was on p182.

Early Allen Co KY marriages include:

Henry Miller + 1826-01-19 Carey Ann Travis [apparently left the county]
Mary Miller [c1804 SC] + 1827-01-31 Zachariah Mayhew [c1804 VA]
Mariah Miller [c1810 KY] + 1827-02-28 Andrew Simpson

Nancy Miller [1813-04-16 d 1905-06-10] + 1832-01-11 William Cassidy
Lydia Miller [c1812] + 1832-11-19 A P H Doyle [move to Fayette Co IL]
Phebe Miller [c1818] + 1836-05-19 Green L Washington Richards [c1812] [1840 p56] [1850 p174a]
Jemima Miller [c1822] + 1837-01-10 Solomon Caldwell [1840 p49] [apparently left the county before 1850]
Delia Miller + 1837-01-09 Thomas Gilmore [I can't find them]
Mary Miller [c1819] + 1839-09-18 Uriah Hinton [c1817] [1840 p49] [1850 p119a]

John Miller + 1840-08-15 Mary Ann Miller [sb Rigsby] [1850 p148b/149a]
Prudence Miller + 1844-08-27 Felix G Prewett [c1821]
Dolly Miller [1825-01-05] + 1845-03-27 Moses B Prewett [c1821] [1850 p169a]
Elizabeth Miller [c1829] + 1847-04-15 Felix G Prewett [c1821] [1850 p168b]
Elizabeth Miller [c1824] + 1842-11-19 Green L W Guy [c1821] [1850 p174b]
David Miller [1811-08-31 VA] + 1848-03-10 Nancy Guy [1830-12-xx KY] [1850 p123b]
Jacob Miller [c1820 VA] + 1849-01-10 Rhonda Jent
Sarah Miller [c1827] + 1849-03-05 William M C Heath

Sarah C Miller [c1831] + 1850-03-14 Thomas S Harmon [c1830]

John who married Mary Ann is s/o this Sam, who is on p159.
Dolly's death record gives her parents as Samuel + Elizabeth.
It seems a reasonable guess that Prudence, Dolly, and one Elizabeth are sisters; and that David and the
other Elizabeth are siblings.
It also seems a reasonable guess that this Sam would name a daughter Elizabeth, after his wife.

On the 1840 census for Allen Co are two Miller families:
William Miller: 1 M 5-10, 2 M 10-15, 1 M 20-30, 1 M 40-50, 1 F 10-15, 2 F 15-20, 1 F 40-50 [p64]
Saml Miller: 1 M 10-15, 1 M 15-20, 1 M 20-30, 1 M 60-70, 1 F 5-10, 2 F 10-15, 2 F 15-20, 1 F 60-70 [p70]

Abraham Pruitt, father of Felix, is on p59. William Pruitt, father of Moses, is on p47.

--
Abraham Pruitt's second wife was Nancy Miller c1814 KY, who first married William Cassidy.
Abraham was from Spartanburg Co SC.

--
Another descendant says his children may also include
Nancy who married William Cassady and then Abraham Pruitt [likely]
Sarah who married Thomas Sylvester Harmon [likely]

--
According to his will, the William Miller who lived in Allen Co had children:
William Jacob, John, Christy, Martha, Mary, Alcana, and Sarah Heath.

--
I think this is my Samuel:

Allen County Kentucky Deed Book B 1815-1819 p105
Dec. 28, 1816
I Samuel MILLER of Allen County formerly Warren County Kentucky...appoint John WALES of
Allen County and state aforesaid my attorney....receive my pay from the United States for a tour
of duty under the command of Captain Thomas GRIFFIN in the 14th Regiment of Kentucky
detached militia...Signed: Samuel MILLER

--
1850 census Allen Co KY p159
John W Rigsby household
Samuel Miller 69 SC

He is a farmer. He cannot read or write.
His daughter Ann is John's husband.

1840 census Allen Co KY p70, twp not given
Saml Miller 1 M 10-15, 1 M 15-20, 1 M 20-30, 1 M 60-70, 1 F 5-10, 2 F 10-15, 2 F 15-20, 1 F 60-70
[William 13, x, John 22, Samuel 60, x, Elizabeth 11, x, Dorothy 15, Prudence 18, Elizabeth]
[Note that one of those daughters wasn't with him on the 1830 census]

John Rigsby is on p 59, Nelson Long is on p 64, and Samuel Miller is on p 70, so clearly the three families lived fairly close to each other.

The only other Miller in Allen Co is a William 40-50. Is that Samuel's brother?

1830 census Allen Co KY p59, twp not given (division allotted to Charles M Henderson)
Samuel Miller 1 M <5, 1 M 5-10, 1 M 10-15, 1 M 40-50, 1 F <5, 2 F 5-10, 1 F 10-15, 2 F 15-20, 1 F 30-40
[William 3, x, John 12, Samuel 50, Elizabeth 1, Dorothy 5, Prudence 8, Martha 12, x, Ann 17, Elizabeth]

There were three other Miller families in Allen Co: Christopher on p68, Jacob on p50, and William on p63.

1820 census Allen Co KY p129
Sam Miller 1 M <10, 1 M 26-45, 4 F <10, 1 F 10-16, 1 F 26-45
[John 2, Samuel 39, Martha 2, x, Ann 7, x, Mary 11, Elizabeth]

--
On the 1810 census, there is no Allen Co; the area was then in Warren Co. There is no Samuel Miller in Warren Co.
In Spartanburg Co SC is Samuel Miller 26-45, 2 sons, 1 daughter.
