Surely the birth dates for the children by Helen Potter are wrong.

Descendants of this family on many different lines all have stories of Indian blood in their family.
It looks to me like it is probably Mastin's mother Frances who was the Indian.

This is very interesting:
Several descendants of this family on different lines who have been DNA-tested by Ancestry.com show Bengal India as part of their ethnic makeup. I always assumed the Indian story above meant Native American. Could it really be India the country? Could Thomas' father have been from England and served in the British Army in India?

I can't find him on the 1850 census. Presumably he died before the census was taken that year.
