It was reported that Delilah returned to Madison, Indiana after the death of her husband Perry, who had succumbed to the measles while traveling by boat on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. The original family destination was (a wilderness area) in Missouri, then moving from Holt County, Indiana. Delilah then died in Madison leaving most of her young children with a family known as Kuykendall. In the year 1855, Mary "Belph" was oldest child at the age of 13, Joseph and Benjamin were age 6, Elizabeth Belph was age 5, and John was age 3. Mary married Lanty Wilson, a sawmill owner where John worked as a teen ? Benjamin was a cripple and did not marry. Elizabeth was taken in as a foster child with a family named Rily Cook and married a Kuykendall at age 16 just prior to the close of the Civil War. Only three of Elizabeth's 8 children survived.
