Notes:

I found a listing of Allen Co KY births that has:
Nelson Long & Martha Miller: 1853-09 Joseph AF Long (twin; other born dead); 1856-10 (no name) Long;
Nelson Long & Patsy Miller: 1854-01-10 Josephine Long (twin; other born dead)

I think that should be 1852, not 1853.

Samuel 4/12 KY

He is a brickmason. He can read and write, but his wife cannot.
Note that James is not there. He was married in November, which was presumably after the census. Apparently he had already moved out. Where is Zachary?

1850 census Allen Co KY p138b, twp not given

He is a bricklayer.

1840 census Allen Co KY p64, twp not given
Nelson Long 1 M 0-5, 1 M 40-50, 2 F 0-5, 1 F 20-30
[James 2, Nelson 40, Arand Jane 3, x, Martha 22]

John Rigsby is on p 59, and Samuel Miller is on p 70, so clearly the three families lived fairly close to each other.

He is not in Allen Co in 1830. His father is there, but has no sons in the household.
According to the Ancestry.com index, this is the only Nelson Long:
1830 census Gibson Co IN p137, twp not given
Nelson Long 1 M 20-30, 1 F 20-30

Gibson Co IN is about 120 miles from Allen Co KY. Nelson didn't marry Martha until 1835. Is that really
him? If so, who is the woman and why are they up there? Did he have a first wife who died?
He could be in Allen Co as a farm laborer in another household and thus not enumerated separately.
The 1840 census has another Nelson, but he is in NY and 10 years younger than mine. I think the one
in Gibson Co has to be mine.

1820 census Allen Co KY p130
Benjamin Long 1 M 10-15, 1 M 19-26, 1 M 45+, 2 F <10, 1 F 10-15, 1 F 16-20, 1 F 26-45
[Nelson is 20]

1810 census Warren Co KY p 270
Benjamin Long 3 M <10, 1 M 26-44, 2 F <10, 1 F 26-45
[Nelson is 10]

I'm not sure if he was born early enough to be on the 1800 census. Census records for 1800 for VA are missing anyway.
