This page of Allen Co KY births has Cuthbert Long 1861-12-23 born of James E Long and Jane E Riggs.

Cuthbert is not with James on the 1880 census. Presumably he was already married or died young.
The Ancestry.com index has only one Cuthbert Long. He is in Cooke Co TX, age 23 born GA. That doesn't much look like James' son.
