2/7/1795: William Burton and wife Mary sold to Henry Foster, for 50 pds,
788 acres on both sides of of Henry Foster's Creek of Fairforrest,
granted 2/4/1788, bordered east by Neasbitt and vacant, south by vacant
and Henry Foster, and north by vacant. Wit: Charles Burton, Lawson
Thomson, Aaron Froyd (or Floyd). Recorded in Spartanburg Co, SC Deed
Book D, pages 120-3.
3/8/1806: William Burton (Spartanburgh) to James Smith (same); for $100
sold 110 ac on branch of Kelsoe's Cr of Fairforrest Cr (enters Tyger
River in Union Co about 5-10 miles north of Whitmire); border: Old Cedar
Spring tract, Court House Road near Cedar Spring Crossroads, Jesse
Connell, Legon now Burton, and Smith; plat attached. Witness William
Bagwell and David Linch (or Lynch). Signed William Burton. Recorded in
Spartanburg Co, SC Deed Book L, pages 078-9.
From "Old Spartanburg Dist Genealogy" Vol. III #1-4 1988: Minutes of the
Court of General Sessions 1806-1808 page 42 The State vs. William Burton,
indicted for Cheating - a true bill April 1808; page 41 The State vs.
William Burton, indicted for forgery (outcome not given). One other
item showed William was chosen to be on a jury in 1807.
