Notes:

married in Wilson Co TN

--
He and his wife are buried in Ava, MO. They came to Douglas County soon after their marriage and settled on a homestead near Ava MO.

Source: a brochure, attributed to Mrs J R Spurlock, from the Ava, MO courthouse. This brochure had his birthplace as Kentucky (same date).

--
from a writeup by granddaughter Ida Clinkingbeard:

Thomas had dark hair and brown eyes, and was of Irish ancestry. He made his living as a school teacher. He was in the Union Army, and worked his way up to become a major. He was discharged because of his age shortly before the Civil War broke out. Thomas' brother was a slave owner, but Thomas didn't want to have anything to do with slavery.

--
He was Superintendant of Public Schools in Douglas Co MO from 1866 to 1868.

Journal of the Historical and Genealogical Society of Douglas Co MO, May 1986 (issue 8) pg 53; by Nancie Todd Weber

Thomas' will was written 1895-12-30, filed 1896-01-21.
Mentions wife Matilda; daus Susan Miller, Margaret Stansbury, Polly Jane Miller, Martha Clinkingbeard,
Mary King, Malinda Dobbs; son John W B Yandell; heirs of son William H Yandell.

Thomas left TN for MO c1853.
"The family came west in a wagon train. Thomas broke his leg. The wagon train continued on,
leaving him behind until he mended -- a chancy act as Matilda was pregnant. Family biography
calls him a major in the Civil War; however, records at Jefferson City indicate he was a private."
