The 1850 Census, Arkansas, Madison County, Prairie Township has this family as #11.

Family #88 in the same township is the John Hinds whom I have listed as William's younger brother. John is listed as age 45, born Tennessee, wife born North Carolina, 2 children (ages 23 and 21) born Tennessee, and 11 children (ages 19 down) born in Arkansas.

It looks like William and John came to Arkansas about 1831. There is a town called Hindsville in Madison county, Arkansas, 15 miles east of Fayetteville. It was established on land belonging to William's younger brother John.

The 1830 Census Index for Tennessee lists only 1 possible combination of William and John Hinds ages 27 and 25: both are in Fentress County, Tennessee. John has wife 21-30, and 2 male children under 5 years old. William has wife age 21-30, 3 daughters under 5, and 1 daughter 5-10. I guess William's first 4 daughters were married before 1850.

Also listed in Fentress County in 1830 is Levi Hinds, age 50-60, wife age 40-50, 1 daughter under 5, 1 daughter 10-15, 2 daughters 20-30. These three are on the same page of the census. Listed between William and John is Joshua Storey; between John and Levi is Archibald Evans (husband of Levi's daughter Nancy); on the other side of William is Andrew Smith (husband of Levi's daughter Abigail). I wonder if Joshua Storey also married into this family.

The county lines were redrawn in 1823. Fentress County was formed from part of Overton County.

The 1820 Census for Tennessee, Overton County, shows Levi Hinds, age 45 or more, wife age 26-44, son 19-25, son 16-18, son 10-15, 2 daughters 10-15, 2 daughters under 10.

In the same county in 1820 is:
Joel Hinds, age 26-44, wife? age 16-25, no children (in 1830 he has 6 children under 10), and Simeon (?) Hinds, age 45+, wife age 45+, son 19-25, son 16-18, daughter 16-25, daughter 10-15, son 10-15, 2 daughters under 10, 3 sons under 10.
