In the John Hinds papers is a letter dated 1827-07-04 from Levi Hinds to Joseph Hinds saying that "Mister Gaines informed me that Brother Silvanus was dead". Levi wishes to know if this is true.

I found a book of Early Tennessee marriages. On 1803-02-04 Edward W Hinds married Mary Polly Sharkey. Does that mean it wasn't Sylvanus that married Polly Sharkey? Was there another Polly Sharkey? Or is the marriage record or transcription wrong, and it's really Edward S?
I haven't seen any other evidence for an Edward Hinds.

On Feb.3,1816, he bought land from Simeon Hinds and on May 4, 1816, he sold land to Edmond Hensley. On aug. 20, 1824, he sold John Hinds 50 acres on the East fork of white's Creek, and on sept. 3, 1837, he sold John another 50 acres on White's Creek for $100.00. He sold Evan Breeding 7 acres near Whites creek on Dec. 26, 1840 and 26 acres on Turnpike Creek on May 21, 1842. About 1843 he moved to Bradley Co TN. and sold the last of his land in Roane Co in 1845.

This RootsWeb entry has a Lucinda Hinds born 1822-05-11 and used to have her father as Sylvanus Hinds. No further Hinds information is given. The only Sylvanus I have that could be her father is this one, but I don't show him having a daughter Lucinda. (Note that she could be #8 in the alternate list of children above.)

Another researcher writes that the above Lucinda is usually found as Hines.
However, there wasn't a Hines family in Roane Co at the time Sylvanus lived there.
If Lucinda is Sylvanus' daughter, she would have to take the place of Elizabeth.
Note that Sylvanus' brother Simeon had a daughter Lucinda about whom I've found nothing. But Simeon
moved to AL before 1830, and his daughter is next to him on the 1840 census.
Also note that there is some question about Elizabeth being Sylvanus' daughter.

The death certificate for 4 Mary Elizabeth Tindle above gives her mother's name as Lucinda Hines.
